Formerly known as Road and Bridge Major of Southwest Transportation College founded in 1951, the School of Civil Engineering was one of the earliest road and bridge majors in the country. It enrolled undergraduates in 1960, masters in 1985, doctoral students in 2005, and 2010 Recruit post-doctorate. There are more than 200 teachers in the college, including more than 50 professional titles (17 doctoral supervisors) and more than 60 associate titles. There are 1 distinguished professor of Changjiang scholars, 1 national outstanding young man, 1 scientific and technological innovation talent in the "Ten Thousand-Year Plan", 5 national-level candidates for tens of millions of talent projects, 3 specially-appointed professors (academicians), and other national, provincial and ministerial levels More than 20 talents. The college has strong scientific research strength, with more than 130 awards for scientific research achievements, including 9 national scientific and technological progress awards and more than 20 first-class provincial and ministerial science and technology awards; in the past five years, it has undertaken more than 460 scientific research projects, including 50 national natural science fund projects. Multiple; more than 260 million yuan in research funding, including more than 30 million yuan for national-level projects and more than 37 million yuan for provincial and ministerial-level projects. It has established good cooperative relations with more than 60 domestic and foreign university-related colleges (departments), large and medium-sized state-owned enterprises, and scientific research institutes.

For more than 60 years, the college has established its foothold in the west and served transportation. It has trained more than 50,000 graduates. A large number of outstanding talents have emerged, including academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, distinguished professors from the Yangtze River Scholars, national survey and design masters, and "top ten bridge heroes".
